Thursday night: What a Wonderful World

To kick things off we’re tipping our hats to all the great exchanges that make up this wonderful swing dance world of ours. Come dressed in merch from your favourite swing event to meet new and old friends and enjoy some chilled social dancing.

Friday night: It’s The Way That You Swing It

Raise your glasses and lace up your dancing shoes because tonight we’re toasting the musicians and bands that made jazz swing! Lunceford, Basie, Webb, Ellington, Shaw, Goodman – the list of greats goes on and Professor Cunningham & His Old School have come all the way from NYC to channel their spirits and keep you on the dance floor all night long.

Friday late night: How High the Moon

Tonight we’re shining the spotlight on the allure of the blues, with tunes courtesy of the sublime Hetty Kate and her Blues Band. The moonlit hours of the morning were just made for this wonderful dance, so come and get your fix. Meanwhile in the lindy room, top Australian DJs will also be on hand to keep the lindy hoppers happy until the sun rises.

Saturday morning: ‘Taint’ What You Do

‘Taint’ what you do, but the way that you do it! Social dancing brings such joy and we want to share that with the public. Grab a coffee in the heart of the city and come put a smile on someone’s face as we swing out in the sunshine!

Saturday afternoon: Herräng Express

This afternoon is a nod to the famed Herräng Dance Camp, Canberräng’s namesake and the biggest swing camp in the world.

For 5 weeks each summer the Swedish seaside village of Herräng transforms into a veritable hub of vernacular jazz and swing. We’ll be channelling those vibes with swingin’ tunes from Hetty Kate and the BlackSchu Band and social dancing galore. Unlike the real Herrang, no mosquito repellent required!

The Savoy. The Roseland. The Alhambra. Tonight we’re saluting the legacy of the iconic ballrooms in New York City where the swing era came into its own and the old-timers danced up a storm!

Dress in your finest vintage threads and come prepared to swing hard as our headline act Professor Cunningham & His Old School serve up authentic jazz guaranteed to get your feet tappin’ and your soul swingin’!

There’ll be a Big Apple in honour of Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and we’d love to see you all out on the floor!

This late night party is inspired by the swing revival, when cargo pants were big and the lindy hop burst back onto the scene. Bust out your best 80s or 90s styling and lindy into the wee hours to sets from our talented DJs. Alternatively you can cruise on through the midnight hour to the soulful sounds of Hetty Kate and her Blues Band.

Sunday morning: Lindy Hopper’s Delight

What a glorious morning! Come and share the delights of swing dance at the Old Bus Depot Markets at this annual lindy bomb, featuring classic tunes and feel-good vibes. Plus you can grab the chance to peruse the local markets before hopping on the bus to the afternoon event.

Sunday afternoon: Shout, Sister, Shout!

Always a crowd favourite, this gig promises wine, wood-fired pizza and some sweet social dancing! This year we’re celebrating the influential female jazz vocalists who lent their formidable talents to some of our favourite charts of the era. Led by the sublime Hetty Kate and backed by Professor Cunningham & His Old School, expect a bit of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, LaVern Baker, Rosetta Tharpe, Bea Wain and more.

Transport: Book a return bus ticket for $10 when you register.

Bus timings:

– 1 pm departure from Old Bus Depot Markets to Lake George Winery
– 5 pm departure from Lake George Winery. Bus will drop dancers back to the Old Bus Depot Markets and then any remaining dancers will be taken to A Bite To Eat.
– There is no bus later in the evening from A Bite to Eat back to Kingston.

Sunday night: After you’ve gone: VENUE CHANGE

DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES OUTSIDE OUR CONTROL WE HAVE HAD A VENUE CHANGE (update as at 6:30 pm Sunday 4 August). We will be dancing at The Loft @ The Duxton at O’Connor Shops.

The fun is almost over for another year, but before you go, stay for dinner and a few last dances to end the weekend on a high. Our DJs promise an easy mix of swing and blues to make sure you’re not too swungover the next day!
